Those of us who are parents are fortunate to experience unconditional love\u2014the kind that commits our lives completely: the love for our children. If asked, \u201cWhat are you willing to do for them?\u201d the answer, without hesitation, is: everything.<\/p>\n
We love them so deeply that we sometimes become overprotective, wanting to shield them from any pain. However, this can unintentionally harm them, making them dependent and fragile. <\/p>\n
It is crucial for children to socialize outside the family bubble\u2014to form friendships, experiment, make mistakes, lose, learn, and through all of that, grow stronger. <\/p>\n
The Early Years are the ideal stage to build social intelligence. As highlighted in the nature vs. nurture debate, environment\u2014along with genetics\u2014plays a key role in a child\u2019s holistic development. Limiting experiences can hinder this potential. <\/p>\n
The school environment offers unique interactions that support emotional well-being. When choosing an educational option, it is important to seek a balance between overprotection and indoctrination, as Vidal Schmill explains in his book \u201cDisciplina Inteligente.\u201d We must seek learning environments that stimulate the mind and encourage the freedom to explore. <\/p>\n
I observe how the Early Years model makes my son feel comfortable. It allows him to flow naturally, just as he is, and to live within his limits. He participates in school activities and events with enthusiasm and confidence. He learns and understands through play. Academic learning, reading, and homework come easily to him, without the burden of obligation. <\/p>\n
As a father, I have been able to witness the advantages of this model firsthand. My youngest son, who is in kindergarten, shows excitement every day about going to school\u2014school is a daily adventure. He enjoys the library and its books, the sounds of English and French, participating in events, and playfully exploring multiplication. <\/p>\n
Despite our instincts, we must avoid overprotection. For me, peace of mind comes from knowing that my son never wants to leave his school\u2014that I chose a safe space for him to socialize, one that gives him the tools for a balanced, innovative, and successful life. <\/p>\n
So, moms and dads, when we are asked what we would do for our daughters and sons, the answer is: everything\u2014and more importantly, everything that is best.<\/p>\n
