As an educator, I recognize that an IB (International Baccalaureate) classroom is more than just a physical space; it is fertile ground for exploration, learning, collaboration, and play. In early childhood, children learn through play\u2014exploring colors, toys, books, and even technology. This is where the Early Years come to life, where children are taken seriously. They love to play, and so do we! <\/p>\n
Play is not only about fun; it is a vital tool for nurturing creativity, curiosity, and confidence. It becomes the main driver of inquiry, one of the most essential skills fostered from early childhood, making learning meaningful, stimulating, and relevant. <\/p>\n
In Saltillo, there is a school with classrooms designed to promote active and collaborative learning. In its library, Mercury, the Moon, the Earth, and even meteorites hang from the ceiling, while at the back, a small island with a lighthouse and a boat guide children toward a new adventure. At Harmony School, these spaces are not only educational but also playful, and the furniture can be arranged in different ways to encourage interaction and the development of social skills. <\/p>\n
As active members of their learning environment, students participate in choosing materials they can touch and explore through learning centers that promote inquiry in scientific, artistic, language, reading, construction, and symbolic play areas.<\/p>\n
We also integrate outdoor spaces that allow children to connect with nature and enjoy physical activities in gardens, courts, playgrounds, and action-oriented exploration areas, including our very own garden. We also provide safe spaces for rest\u2014because what would we do without a good nap? <\/p>\n
We know that a nurturing environment promotes our students\u2019 progress, just as the relationship with their teachers does\u2014teachers who invite interaction and create an atmosphere where students feel safe and respected.<\/p>\n
Musical instruments, sounds, rhythms, tones, easels, paints, brushes, rollers, cubes, ramps, and tunnels inspire learning in our specialized classrooms for music and art, French, and creative movement. Therefore, thinking about design, lighting, ventilation, and appropriate temperature is thinking smart when it comes to early childhood. It\u2019s like the secret ingredient for their academic future!<\/p>\n
